Anna

Just some random Anna facts that I want to write down to remember...
  • Her vocabulary: "I'm trying to figure out this part....", Uses words such as "backwards, tomorrow, yesterday, sometimes and sure, She wanted Sydney to look at her and I guess Sydney started licking her, she got frustrated and told Sydney, "Sydney look AT me, no don't lick me, look AT me", "I don't see it anywhere", and her use of pronouns "I have a jacket on like you does", "Him has it" "What is her?" and every other pronoun flub you can think it, so cute!
  • Wants to do and see and be everything that Quinn is. If Quinn needs a burp, she'll climb up on the other half of my lap and want a burp too, diaper time, is insistent on the same routine that he gets (small diaper, medicine cream etc), feeding him, she needs milk too, just snuggling together "Mommy, he your little boy and I your big girl", does not want to be separated from Quinn, regardless if he is awake or not, it's tough to get her to go down for a nap or bedtime because it's a constant "I waaaant my baby!" or "What he doing?" or "Just one more kiss?" all super sweet but tiring.

Our first week so far...

Monday: Stayed home all day and just got used to living as a threesome while Daddy was at work...not bad but will definitely need to get out this week.

Tuesday:  Went to the doctor at 8:30 to get Quinn a check up and we arrived on time, wah-hoo! Then we spent the rest of the day at home again.

Wednesday: We decided to venture out to Target and Kohl's for the morning, I think it was a whole 2 1/2 hour adventure, go us! Here we are getting in the car... Shopping wasn't that bad considering that Quinn slept the entire time, Anna had her typical 2 year old meltdown moments that we had to deal with but overall I think it was a success.

Then Wednesday evening we received two awesome packages on the front step. GGma and GGpop sent some super cute items for both Anna and Quinn. Anna now has a new beach cover-up that she is going to look cute in this weekend. Quinn has some great 3 month old clothes that will be perfect for when he goes to school in September, plus look at that star sleeper - it says "Mommy's star", just what he is! Aunt Kayla sent a "Daddy's Wardrobe" that Greg was very excited about. Daddy's little surfer dude, King of the beach, a beach buggy polo and a button down that is similar to Greg's weekend button down. They are going to look so handsome together.

We are very lucky to have such great friends and family, we have tons of new boy clothes for Quinn and are overwhelmed by everything that everyone has done for us....

Thursday:  Greg had off today because he has an afternoon meeting in J'ville (ugh), but this morning we went to Gymnastics! While searching on the internet this week for things for us to do (preferably inside considering this week we're nearing 100+ degrees) I found Port City Gymnastics that has open gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30 -PERFECT for Anna and tires her out before nap, ha!

Here's the layout of the place, so much to do, super safe and a lot of fun!

Anna got to practice rolling...

climbing...

jumping.... (guess what song was on Grandma? Green grass!!)

falling in a huge foam pit...

balancing with Dad...

and climbing the rock wall, (behind that rock wall is the huge foam pit that you fall into, a big hit!)

All while her brother slept.

Quinn James Arrives

We are in the hospital and patiently waiting discharge so I'm going to start our birth story minus a beautiful picture of him (since I don't have the ability to upload photos here)

Wednesday and Thursday nights were terrible, could not sleep and had bad back pain. The days were great though. Anna and I had a great week together just hanging out, playing with friends and enjoying mommy/Anna time.

4:00 - 4:45 On Friday afternoon, Anna and I headed to Harris Teeter to get a cake mix to make a special cake for Daddy since it was Friday, she was insistent that it was his birthday. When we got home we started cooking dinner and put the cake in the oven.

4:45 - 5:00 Greg came in the door, earlier than usual. He asked how our day was and it was the usual, but I told him that within the last 5-10 minutes I had some mild cramping feeling, but was probably just those back aches starting up again for bedtime.

5:00 Anna went outside with Greg to work in the shed and mow the grass and I finished dinner and monitored the contractions to see if t this was a real deal.

5:30: I walked outside and told Greg to turn off the lawnmower and told him that this baby was coming tonight and we should call mom to come get Anna & Sydney.

6:00: Called mom to stop over on the way home from work and pick up Anna and Sydney. Anna was thrilled to go to Grandma and Pop's house for a sleepover!

6:30: Mom, Anna & Sydney leave. Greg and I finish up the dishes, clean up around the house, put the bags in the car and take showers.

7:00: Greg and I decided to time the contractions some more, they were totally random nothing like last time. We played with the idea of going to walk around Mayfair since we thought it might be just a few more hours. After a while we decided against it and just to walk across the street at Marsh Oaks, then decided against that too. We enjoyed a piece of cake on the couch that Anna and I picked out and thought about a short walk just around our block. We watched some TV and the contractions were medium stength, nothing that needed complete concentration or caused a lot of pain, just normal.

8:00: Greg: "I think we should go to the hopipital"
Me: "OK, if that's what you think, we can hang there and walk"

8:05: In the car with a few more contractions

8:20: Arrive at hospital, many more contractions and I begin to cry (Greg thinks I'm over reacting at this point but keeps it to himself - he still thinks we have a long night ahead of us since Anna's labor was 19 hours)

8:22: In the elevator I see these stupid carpets that take my mind off the contractions, they say "Welcome to NHRMC, We hope you have a great Friday" - seriously they have a carpet for each day of the week - my mom's answer, yes, and there's a person who has to change them every day. Now that's what I call having too much money!

8:24: Arrive at Check In - no time for that, rush to triage, can't tell how dialated I am, huge bag of water in the way, no time for fetal monitoring, throw our bags on the bed and wheel me into labor and delivery - all while having massive contractions

8:30: We are all set up in Labor and Delivery and my water breaks on the bed. I tell whoever is listening that this baby is coming and I want them to pull it out (yelling of course because it hurts!) Greg nicely tells me I'm going to need to push it out they can't just pull it out. Ha!

8:35: 2 pushes in....

8:38: 3 pushes in...

8:41: 4 pushes in and he's here!

From Door to Delivery: 20 minutes. Good thing we didn't go walking somewhere!!!!

The doctors take him away and start cleaning up, not knowing that we don't know the gender because no one had time to chat beforehand, look at a chart, admit me to the hospital, anything! So Greg and I yell, "SO? What do we have?!?!?!" The doctors say, "OH! Congratulations, you have a son!" HOORRAY!!!! Welcome Quinn James we love you!

After that, we just hung our in the room while they did some assessments on Quinn and cleaned me up. I felt like a million bucks. MUCH better than after Anna. No tearing which was great.  Able to get up and walk around. Second time around was much more enjoyable.

As we were taken up to our Mother/Baby room and settled in Greg and I reflected on our journey, God had a plan and it was perfect: I had a great week just Anna and I spending all the quality time together we could, plus family time at night when Greg came home. Greg came home from work early on Friday and we were able to get in a good family meal plus cake! Mom came and effortlessly took Anna and all her belongings to Hampstead for the weekend. Greg knew just the right time to go to the hospital and not go walking somewhere. Quinn knew we were close and held out until we were safely in the doctors hands and then came right out. Greg was able to stay with me in the hospital the whole weekend and not worry about taking off work, etc. Everyone was able to come visit because it was the weekend. And most inportantly, we are all healthy and happy. *tear tear*

Will post pictures as soon as we arrive home, hopefully later tonight.

Thursday

We decided to get out of the house this afternoon and brave the heat and headed to the park. When we got there "where all the kids?" Sorry honey, guess it's too hot for everyone else except us. We played for a while then headed down to the pond. Anna asked to take her shoes and shorts off so she could play in the water, hopefully that cooled her off a bit. What a trooper!

It was much cooler tonight so we packed up dinner and headed down to WB park for their first concert of the summer, we love these Thursday night concerts. Here's Anna enjoying some fruit....

And Sydney enjoying the rest of Anna's dinner

Here is our lovely free spirit who danced the night away all by herself. As soon as the music came on she booked it from our chairs up to the front of the stage and began her twirling and every other dance move she could think of. It was so much fun watching her.

And of course to end the night, nothing like mowing the grass in the dark at 9:30, but I guess that's what you get when you put together a super generous dad and a new sod owner.

Now if only I could post something about this baby....

Blueberry Festival

Tour de Blueberry, Burgaw NC, June 16, 2012

Daddy and Anna heading to the start

In place for their 13 mile ride

And they're off!

One hour later, here they come zooming around the corner!

Afterwards we walked around the festival and ate some delicious blueberry ice cream, even had to buy a second round.

Walking around the festival with her buddy Elli

Listening to some music, deciding if they're going to go dance or not

I'm so tired Daddy!

2 minutes into the car ride home

That night we went to the beach again for dinner with the Hinrichs. Jake and Anna played hard for 3 hours and then she slept til 7:30 this morning, wa-hoo!
Great day had by all!

Anna has a Mickey CD that has 4 songs on and it EVERY time we get in the car she requests it. To say the least, Greg and I are soooo tired of it. Finally yesterday, Greg found a Disney CD that has a few more songs on it, so we told Anna it was Mickey's friends singing and she was OK with that. Need some new suggestions for kid songs/CD"s, we can only take so much of Disney.

Greg went to the dryer last night to get Anna a clean diaper and brought it in her room to put together and as he was inserting the pad she tells Greg, "No, only mommy do diapers" Ha!

Her new phrase is, "You told me dat yesterday." We were on front steps and she asked me about a spider web, I told her it 's where spiders live and she says "oh mom, you told me dat yesterday". Anything we have to repeat she says, "oh, you told me dat yesterday"

Anna is not fond of shoes any more, takes them off at any chance.

Calming down after a fit....

Anna's favorite book/video....Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

As she flings open her towel,  "See my naked baby!"

We are now visiting the Doc weekly to check the babe. Yesterday all was good, we head back next Wednesday. Our bags are packed, arrangements are made for the most part,  new recliner in place so we can get some sleep somehow, still don't have a girls name, we're hot on Paige Elizabeth this week, I guess we'll just have to make a game time decision if it's a girl,
18 more days to go....
